Jimmy Fraley, 11, asked after Mass:
“Father, what do priests do on holidays like Thanksgiving? Do you cook and have dinner in the rectory?”
“A good and natural question, Jimmy, thanks. We priests celebrate our holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter as most do. My family rotates hosting the holiday meals, and even if we can’t all be together, sharing the holidays with family is something I have always looked forward to since I was little. Most priests do not — and cannot! — undertake big meals such as Thanksgiving and Christmas in the rectory, so most I know travel to see family, or be with friends. Watching football and even playing some football has also been a part of our family Thanksgiving get-togethers.
