Tis The Season of Parish
It was such a joyful and fun evening this week as we came together on Thursday night as a parish family to ring in the Christmas season with the blessing of our outdoor creche, the lighting of our Parish Christmas Tree and singing carols and enjoying holiday refreshments afterwards.
It has been extremely pleasing to learn how happy the parish is that our large Nativity scene is back outdoors after many years in the Narthex. I’m grateful to our St. Gen’s Special Projects Director Rich Borowiec, parish handyman Jim Wood and our Knights of Columbus for setting up the stable and figures and stringing the lights on our large evergreen for what turned out to be a wonderful night of unity, faith, song and cheer. Thank you also to our music director Andrew Puntel and choir members for leading us in song and to our Samaritan Society led by Joe Manta and our Hospitality team for the yummy seasonal refreshments! May it become a long-lasting new parish tradition that grows and grows as our parish is!
Add Your Family Name to Our Parish Tree!
Look for the big basket in our Narthex where you can drop off a special Christmas ornament perhaps made by one of the children, with your family name on it for hanging on our new 8-foot Christmas tree which will welcome all inside the Narthex.
The tree will be trimmed with ornaments on Friday and Saturday Dec. 22-23 and the tree will be blessed at the 10:15 Mass on Sunday Dec. 24. I think I’ll even be making a Fr. Kevin ornament, so join me in creating your family’sornament!
We need an army of helpers on Friday Dec. 22 and Saturday Dec. 23 as we completely decorate the Church and Narthex for Christmas. Please consider donating some time on those days or evenings to assist as needed with decorating, ushering, helping with parking during Masses, and cleanup after Masses (hopefully not much to do there).
It’s a great way for our high school and college students to serve your parish! Kindly sign up on the sheets in the Narthex. The more the merrier, and the more we have the quicker we finish!
If Fr. Kevin is going to sing Christmas Carols, so can you. You don’t have to be an American Idol competitor to join us on Dec. 17 after the 5 pm Sunday Mass as we bring Christmas joy to our parish friends on our Communion call list.  Earlier that day, our CYO athletes and coaches will take poinsettias to the elderly and infirmed of our parish.
It is so heartwarming to see so many in this great parish brightening the Christmas season and bringing smiles to many through service and the spread of love and joy in our community. This is what being a parish is all about!
May God Bless you all during this beautiful holy season!
Father Kevin
