The Good Samaritan Society

The Good Samaritan Society takes its name from the parable of the Good Samaritan. Its mission is to support the marginalized, beginning with the parish and extending into the surrounding community. The Good Samaritan Society provides food, housing and fuel assistance to families in the parish who are undergoing hard times. The society supports Catholic Social Services (CSS) with their food pantry through two major food collections each year. Other CSS activities that they support include the Thanksgiving food distribution, Christmas food and toy project and the children’s summer camp. Through the Samaritan Society parishioners volunteer at three ministries in Kensington:  Mother of Mercy House, for which we collect nonperishable food and hotel-size toiletries, St. Francis Inn where our monthly casseroles go and the SSJ Welcome Center, which receives the annual school supply collection. Members also support the Missionaries of Charity by helping in the kitchen at their Norristown location.

The Respect Life Committee

The Respect Life Committee lives the truth of the Church’s teaching that all life from conception to natural death is entitled to respect and protection. This committee supports pro-life organizations that help pregnant women in crisis through educational events, supply collections and prayer as well as contributing funds. Members volunteer at Mary’s House, Guiding Star Ministries and Legacy of Life Foundation. Some of the committee’s events include a “Baby Bottle” fundraiser, diaper drives and a spiritual adoption of an unborn baby program. They host a holy hour for life, supporting the March for Life through prayer.
