Talk Sports with Fr. Kevin !
I recently spoke to our sixth graders on Career Day about my previous life as a newspaper sportswriter. Afterwards, the teacher said, “I wish my husband was here. He would’ve loved hearing those stories.”
Many of you also have suggested it, and I enjoy your frequent sports questions that take me back down Memory Lane to my 30 years covering the Philly sports scene.
So let’s have some fun and do it !
Let’s Talk Sports on Friday April 5, starting at 7:30 in Parish Hall !
The Phillies will be 5-0 as they host Minnesota that night. The NCAA Basketball Championship Final 4 will be set for the next day (Tennessee, Gonzaga, Michigan and … Buffalo?) and the Masters will be in view.
Ever wonder what it was like covering the cast of characters in the Eagles locker room from Buddy Ryan through Ray Rhodes? Remember “Babygate?” “For Who, For What?”
Want to talk Big 5 basketball history and the 50 Greatest in Big 5 history? Hear about my first day at Augusta for the Masters; my being caught in the stampede up the 18th fairway at Royal Birkdale in 1991 as Ian Baker-Finch won the British Open, or riding Amtrak with CBS’s John Madden to the Super Bowl. Who were my favorite players, favorite people, greatest moments, favorite teams to cover, and who did I never go near? How did I ever make deadline? (I didn’t always !). How does a sportswriter become a priest?
The stories and memories are endless and you occasionally bring them out of me, but there is rarely time to share the full stories.
On Friday, April 5 there will be ! So men and women (adults only, sorry), mark your calendars and bring your questions for a fun night talking sports! (oh, food and drink will be provided). Think spring !
God Bless you all.
